The Cognos system has undergone many changes over the years, but Cognos Analysts are able to utilize this software in order to identify weak areas in a company and develop solutions to fix those issues. Today, a Cognos Analyst will use multiple software programs to analyze and solve many different types of business problems.
A Cognos Analyst typically has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, but there are a growing number of Business and Finance graduates who are choosing to take certification classes in Cognos systems in order to qualify for these jobs. In many companies, a diverse background of experiences is desired for Cognos Analyst teams in order to ensure that someone has direct experience with every issue that may arise. For this reason, applicants with experience in similar industries as the company they are applying for are often in high demand.
Cognos Analysts often take several different job titles, including Financial Analyst and Business Intelligence Consultant. Because of this, it can be difficult to determine an average salary. The salary range for these positions, however, is between $75,000 and $120,000.
